Significant changes of EN IEC 60079-0:2018 with respect to EN 60079-0:2012+A11
If you have designed and produced your explosion-proof product based on the previous version of the standard EN 60079-0:2012+A11 and in case that you have obtained ATEX or IECEx certificate accordingly, this comparison table helps you in the following cases:
-
you will have a clear and simple guide to check if the design of your product is required to modified or not;
-
you will be able to check if re-issuing your ATEX or IECEx certificate bease on the new version of the standard (EN IEC 60079-0:2018) will require modification on your product design and technical documentation and will need to repeat any of tests which has been already done during initial certification, or not.
Types of changes
1. Minor and editorial changes
-
Poupose of change:
-
clarification
-
decrease of technical requirements
-
minor technical change
-
editorial corrections
These are changes which modify requirements in an editorial or a minor technical way. They include changes of the wording to clarify technical requirements without any technical change, or a reduction in level of existing requirement.
2. Extension
Purpose of change:
-
addition of technical options
These are changes which add new or modify existing technical requirements, in a way that new options are given, but without increasing requirements for equipment that was fully compliant with the previous standard. Therefore, these will not have to be considered for
products in conformity with the preceding edition.
3. Major technical changes
Purpose of change:
-
addition of technical requirements
-
increase of technical requirements
These are changes to technical requirements (addition, increase of the level or removal) made in a way that a product in conformity with the preceding edition will not always be able to fulfill the requirements given in the later edition. These changes have to be considered for products in conformity with the preceding edition. For these changes additional information is provided in "Information about the background of changes" of page 13 of EN IEC 60079-0:2018.
Gap analysis for effects of standard revision
-
In the below tables, only "Extensions" and "Major technical changes" which may affect the requirements of design and certification of explosion-proof products are specified.
-
for performing a gap analysis for finding possible non-conformities in product design and required type tests for certification following revising the EN 60079-0:2012 to EN IEC 60079-0:2018, ConformEx proposes a table in which, all clauses of EN IEC 60079-0:2018, are mentioned, in addition all "minor", "extension" and "major" changes and the "clauses without change", are specified.

-
-
for the purpose of an effective gap analysis, the columns "applicability for the current project", "Reason of applicability", "Risk of raising non-conformity with IEC 60079-0:2017" and "Necessary measures, in case of raised risk" should be completed in the proposed table.
