ATEX marking for electrical and non electrical combined equipment

For many explosion-proof equipment, different parts of the equipment have different types of explosion protection, which are designed and evaluated according to the relevant applicable standards.

In such cases, according to §29.6 of EN IEC 60079-0:2018, the Ex-marking shall include the symbols for all of the Types (or Levels) of Protection employed.

The symbols for the types of protection shall appear in alphabetical order, with small separating spaces.

However, some of these parts may be non-electrical and have been designed and evaluated based on the EN/IEC 80079 standards series, and therefore their Ex-marking is based on §11 of EN ISO 80079-36.

Question: EN IEC 60079-0:2018, §29.6, describes the Ex-marking principles of combined types of protection for electrical apparatus.

How shall the Ex- marking be shown for equipment covered by both the electrical (mainly 60079 series) and non-electrical (mainly EN/IEC 80079 series) standards?

Answer:

According to the IECEx decision sheet no. DS2017/007, it is decided to have combined marking for equipment which include an electrical part and a non-electrical part.

For example

Gas Marking:  Ex db h IIA T4 Gb

Dust Marking : Ex h tb IIIC T135 °C Db
